How to choose a sleep hardware device?

Nowadays, there are many sleep monitoring devices, which are divided into wearable and non-wearable devices. Wearable devices are generally smart watches, smart bracelets, etc., and non-wearable devices are generally smart mattressessmart pillows, and smart bed belts.

Most people have been exposed to wearable sleep monitoring devices, such as smart watches and smart bracelets, but is it really comfortable to wear a watch/band to sleep at night? Wearable monitoring devices can affect sleep quality to some extent, and non-wearable sleep monitoring devices are more comfortable.

There are roughly three categories of non-wearable sleep monitoring devices: first, bar sleep trackers laid on the bed; second, smart mattresses; third, sleep monitors placed at the head of the bed. These monitoring products can also be used with some peripheral hardware to improve data accuracy and experience a more comprehensive smart life.

Sleep trackers are generally sleep monitoring devices that are placed on the bed or under the pillow. It does not need to be worn. It has a belt-like strip structure with more built-in sensors to count the data of each turn more accurately. It can also measure the user’s heart rate and breathing rate. These data will be synchronized in the mobile phone, and a sleep quality report will be obtained through a certain calculation method.

Plus1Health has a bar sleep tracker on the bed, which can monitor human respiration, heart rate and sleep status in real time. Remote real-time viewing, receiving early warning messages and sleep report pushes.

How to choose health monitoring equipment for the elderly?

The choice of health monitoring equipment for the elderly should mainly consider the principle of practicality, and must have the following functions:

1. Heart rate detection

Selecting an intelligent monitoring device that can realize 24-hour heart rate detection plays a relatively effective role in detecting abnormal heart rate of the elderly. The 24-hour heart rate detection can capture abnormal conditions such as fast/slow heart rate, arrhythmia, etc.,and detect potential health problems in time, and prevent risks that affect life and health.

2. Sleep quality detection

Sleep detection is currently a must-have function on many smart monitoring devices, because the detection of sleep depth is mainly measured by the amount of exercise during sleep, but not all smart monitoring devices can detect sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is mainly achieved through photoelectric heart rate detection. Intelligent monitoring equipment with this function will automatically detect the user’s blood oxygen concentration during sleep at night to determine whether abnormal breathing occurs during sleep.

Sleep apnea is more common in middle-aged obese people, and it can cause serious damage to the human body, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, arrhythmia, myocardial infarction, etc., they can increasing the risk of stroke in the middle-aged and elderly. Therefore, when purchasing intelligent monitoring equipment for the elderly, priority should be given to those with respiratory arrest detection function.

3. Can pay attention to the health data of family members

For most elderly people, it is difficult to use intelligent monitoring equipment to master their own health. Therefore, the intelligent monitoring equipment for the elderly must have a data sharing function, so that children can always pay attention to the health situation of the elderly. At present, most of the devices on the market mainly focus on the sports community, and the sports data needs to be actively shared by users every time to see it. There are relatively few data that can be bound to the shared data of relatives. Therefore, when purchasing, pay attention to the software corresponding to the device which must be able to share family health data.

The sleep recorder of Plus1Health is equipped with the “TiNew” applet, which can be matched with most brands of mobile phones and models. By following the “TiNew” public account, you can understand the health of your family members in real time, and enhance the relationship between family members.

How to prevent sleep apnea syndrome?

1. Enhance physical exercise, maintain good living habits, pay attention to sleep hygiene, take a warm bath or soak your feet before going to bed, and do not play with your mobile phone before going to bed at night.

2. Lose weight and control weight. Fat precipitation in the upper airway soft tissue of obese people, small lumen, and fat infiltration in the upper airway muscle tissue can cause muscle tissue connection relaxation, leading to increased compliance of the upper airway, causing airway collapse and poor breathing.

3. Quit smoking and drinking. Smoke can damage the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, reduce the sensitivity of the respiratory tract, and cause aggravation of respiratory symptoms; Alcohol can reduce the movement of muscles around the upper respiratory tract, increase the occurrence of sleep disordered breathing, heavy snoring, night disordered breathing and hypoxemia, especially drinking before sleep.

4. Pay attention to monitoring blood sugar and blood pressure. Sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome often causes blood pressure to rise and blood sugar to be unstable. At home, we should also pay attention to long-term monitoring of blood pressure and blood sugar.

Plus1Health has a sleep recorder that can monitor heart rate and respiratory rate, and check sleep apnea syndrome.

5. Do not take sedative and hypnotic drugs, which will inhibit the respiratory center. The sedatives can reduce the movement of muscles around the upper respiratory tract and increase the occurrence of sleep disordered breathing.

6. Take a side lying position, preferably the right side. When sleeping, you can put something on your back to keep the side lying position. The supine position may aggravate the retroflexion of the base of the tongue and the obstruction of the upper airway.

7. The operation solves the problem of upper airway stenosis. After the operation, pay attention to soft food and light diet, and avoid strenuous exercise in a short period of time.

Anti-Snoring Smart Mattress Solution

About 150 million people in China snore while sleeping, including:

1. 30% of people over the age of 30 will snore;

2. 40% of people over the age of 40 will snore;

3. Half of people after age 65 have no snoring or sleepless nights.

During sleep, if the airflow through the upper airway is blocked, it can cause vibrations, resulting in snoring. Improper sleeping position, nasal congestion, fatigue, etc., may all cause snoring. According to relevant statistics, two-thirds of people complain that the other half’s snoring affects their sleep.

Snoring will make it difficult for the other party to fall asleep, and it is difficult to enter a deep sleep, the sleep process is frequently interrupted, affecting the quality of sleep, and the uninterrupted snoring will also affect the hearing of the other half. Do you think snoring only affects the other person? Although snoring generally does not wake you up, long-term snoring will cause the snorer to repeatedly suspend sleep breathing, resulting in hypoxia in the brain and blood, and induce various cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

The causes of snoring are different, but the sound of snoring is equally annoying, making both parties uneasy to sleep. Choose a smart mattress with an anti-snoring mode, which can let the other party quietly stop the snoring without disturbing the other party’s sleep. Free from snoring.

According to ergonomic principles and big data, the smart mattress calculates the angle that fits the scene of use and the human body, and makes a reasonable design. It can also be customized and adjusted according to each person’s comfort angle, one-click memory, to achieve a comfortable and healthy experience. The user’s snoring status is continuously monitored through the mobile phone applet, and when snoring is confirmed, vibration or back lift is triggered, and the intensity or amplitude varies from small to large until the snoring is stopped. On the one hand, it can effectively stop snoring, and on the other hand, it does not interfere with normal sleep. In addition, when the snoring stops monitored, the vibration also stops. After a few seconds, the bed body returns to a horizontal position, which truly realizes dynamic closed-loop control and maximizes the advantages and effects of smart mattresses for snoring.

Plus1Health provides the smart bed and smart mattress development solutions which can help traditional furniture companies and mattress manufacturers to create smart sleep products, catch the express train of the smart and health industry, reduce risks and quickly occupy the market.

What sensors are used in sleep monitoring devices?

1. Gyroscope

Gyroscope is the most commonly used sleep monitoring sensor, and it is also the earliest and lowest-end sleep monitoring sensor. In essence, it uses the built-in gyroscope of the mobile phone to monitor our body movement data to judge our sleep status.

Human sleep patterns can be basically divided into five phases and two phases, the most important of which are two phases: non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREM) and rapid eye movement sleep (REM).

Basically our sleep alternates between these two phases throughout the night, and the cycle starts over and over again. Generally speaking, when a person is in NREM, the body is basically in a static state, and most of the turning over, or conscious/unconscious movements occur during REM.

The body movement feature is actually based on identifying whether we are currently in NREM or REM, and  determine whether we are in deep sleep, light sleep and wakefulness. This is not a problem for 99% of today’s smart phones, and even many smart bracelets with sleep monitoring actually use the built-in gyroscope to determine whether the user has physical activity, so as to judge and count our sleep status.

But the biggest problem with gyroscope monitoring is the high rate of misjudgment: on the one hand, when we are physically moving, it is not necessarily that the hand wearing the bracelet is moving, it may be that other parts of the body are moving, but the system thinks that you are still in the NREM state; On the one hand, it is easy to be disturbed by the outside world. Maybe you did not move, but the person next to you turned over. As a result, the system mistakenly thought that you moved, so it was counted to REM.

2. Bone conduction

Both of them are actually micro-motion sensors, but compared with gyroscopes, their body motion monitoring accuracy is significantly improved, and the sleep information that can be monitored is more abundant, so they are generally used for mid-to-high-end sleep monitoring product.

Bone conduction technology was first known as a means of sound transmission. Traditional sound transmission relies on air vibration acting on the tympanic membrane to allow us to hear sound, and bone conduction, as its name suggests, passes through the skull, bone labyrinth, inner ear lymph, spiral, auditory nerve, cerebral cortex auditory center to transmit and receive.

There is actually a throat microphone in the application of bone conduction. It actually uses the slight vibration of the bones caused by people’s speech to collect sound signals and convert them into electrical signals. The human body, whether it is physical movement, breathing, snoring, or even heartbeat, will actually cause slight vibrations on the body surface. If the accuracy of the sensor is high enough, it can actually collect signals and identify them one by one through algorithms.

3. Piezoelectric film

The principle of piezoelectric film is actually similar to that of bone conduction technology. It generates corresponding electrical signals by measuring the pressure changes acting on it by the body. However, the advantage of piezoelectric film is that it can be easily widened. Compared with bone conduction, which can only be measured in point form, piezoelectric film can monitor the entire surface. Of course, the cost will naturally increase a lot, so sleep monitoring equipment using piezoelectric films will be much more expensive than other technologies.

Piezoelectric film also has an advantage. Whether it is a gyroscope or bone conduction, it must be worn on the body, even if it is not worn, it must be used close to the body, which is determined by the monitoring accuracy of the sensor itself. The piezoelectric film has higher precision, so it can be monitored across the entire mattress.

4. Bioradar

There are not many products currently used. Bio-radar actually uses radar technology to detect important information such as human respiration, heartbeat and body movement without contact by emitting electromagnetic waves.

At present, this technology is mainly used in the fields of medical treatment and disaster relief, and there are not many applications of civilian-grade products. There are two reasons: 1. High cost; 2. There is a small amount of electromagnetic radiation.

Of course, it doesn’t make sense to just monitor the data without analyzing it. The role of sleep monitoring is to obtain accurate data for analyzing the user’s sleep situation and giving suggestions for improvement.

The sleep recorder of Plus1Health adopts piezoelectric film sensor, which is non-sensing and non-contact human monitoring. It is safe and reliable, the monitoring data is accurate, and the report and analysis are timely and quickly issued.
